Overview
NIXLIGHT TECHNOLOGY LIMITED ("we", "our") operates Formshot ("the app"), which is designed from the ground up to be private. We do not collect, store, or transmit your photos. All image processing happens entirely on your device using on-device machine learning.
What data do we collect?
Formshot itself does not collect personal data on our servers. We do not store your photos, require an account, or use advertising networks. However, to support in-app purchases we use RevenueCat, a third-party service that does collect limited data as described below.
Specifically, Formshot does not:
- Collect your name, email address, or any account information.
- Upload, store, or transmit your photos or any images you process in the app.
- Collect your location or contacts.
- Use advertising SDKs or ad-based tracking.
RevenueCat (in-app purchases) does collect:
- An anonymous app user ID generated on first launch (no link to your real identity).
- Purchase history, product identifiers, and transaction status from the app store.
- Device and OS version, app version, and locale for purchase validation and debugging.
- Aggregate, non-personal usage data to support purchase flows.
RevenueCat does not receive your photos or any content you create in the app. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
How does the AI background removal work?
Background removal and photo adjustments run on your device using on-device models and platform machine-learning components. Some platform components, such as Google ML Kit modules on Android, may be downloaded by the operating system or platform SDK. Your photos are processed locally and are never sent to any server — ours, RevenueCat's, or anyone else's. The processed image is saved only to your own photo library, file system, or share destination when you choose to export it.
Local project storage
To let you continue editing a photo later, Formshot may store project files locally on your device, including the original image you selected, a background mask, a thumbnail, editing settings, export settings, and whether that photo has been unlocked for watermark-free export. These files remain on your device and are not uploaded by Formshot.
Permissions we request
Formshot may request the following permissions, used solely to provide the app's features:
- Camera — to let you take a photo directly in the app. Photos are not stored anywhere other than your device's photo library (if you choose to save them).
- Photo Library / Storage — to let you select an existing photo and to save the exported result to your library. We only access photos you explicitly select.
- Network access — to validate in-app purchases through RevenueCat and the app stores, and to allow platform machine-learning components to be downloaded when required. Network access is not used to upload your photos.
We do not request access to contacts, location, microphone, or any other sensor.
In-app purchases & RevenueCat
Formshot uses RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases across Android and iOS. RevenueCat acts as a bridge between the app and the underlying app store, validating receipts and recording purchase status for one-time photo unlocks. The data RevenueCat collects is limited to what is necessary to fulfil purchases (see "What data do we collect?" above for details).
Payment transactions themselves are processed entirely by Google Play or the App Store. Neither Formshot nor RevenueCat ever receives your full payment card details. Please refer to:
Crash reporting
The app may use the platform's built-in crash reporting (Google Play's Android Vitals or Apple's crash logs) to help us identify and fix bugs. These reports contain only technical stack traces and device model/OS version information. They do not contain any photos, personal data, or file content.
Children's privacy
Formshot is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and you have concerns, please contact us at the address below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
